Whether you have been coming for many years or this is your first time with us, we wanted to make sure you know...
We Appreciate You. Aloha!
Makawao Union Church is a church near Makawao on the Hawaiian island of Maui. It was founded by New England missionary Jonathan Smith Green during the Kingdom of Hawaii. The third historic structure used by the congregation was designed by noted local architect C.W. Dickey and dedicated in 1917 as the Henry Perrine Baldwin Memorial Church. In 1985, Makawao Union Church was placed on the Hawaii and National Register of Historic Places.
Makawao Union Church is an interdenominational community church of Congregationalist heritage. That means that we are bound together not by a creed one must conform to, but by a covenant. Our covenant reads:
We do hereby set forth the principles of the Christian faith as commonly held among us, believing that the foundation of our lives is Jesus Christ. It is our aim to bring joy to little children, instruction and high ideals to youth, inspiration to men and women in the midst of life and comfort to those in life’s later years, and to work together for the betterment of all people.
Our fellowship shall not be dependent upon uniformity of theological opinion, or of outward circumstance, or of denominational name, but grows from a common loyalty to Jesus, a common passion to serve the world, and a common purpose to do justly, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God.

Ad Hoc Committee
We currently do not have a settled pastor. Our Ad Hoc Committee is actively exploring the future direction of Makawao Union Church as we transition into a new chapter. All members and visitors are warmly invited to participate in our Zoom meetings, held once or twice a month. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to our office.

Secondhand Heaven
Upcountry Maui’s popular thrift shop – Secondhand Heaven – first opened its doors for business in the community hall building at Makawao Union Church in 2018. Since then, it has experienced substantial growth, expanding from a modest 500-square-foot room to an impressive 3,500 square feet spread across 9 rooms on 3 different levels.

Ka Hale A Ke Ola Shelter Dinner
Every six weeks on a Sunday, we provide shelter dinners for Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center (KHAKO) in Wailuku. We deeply appreciate everyone who volunteers to serve the meal or donates ingredients for the Chicken Enchiladas. Your support makes a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need. If you feel called to join this outreach ministry, please contact the church office.

Fall Bible Study
All are welcome to join this study on Wednesdays in the Church Narthex from 2:15 to 3:15pm. Rev. Heather Mueller will lead us as we take a deeper look at the Scripture which will be used the following Sunday. There are plenty of bibles for your use or you are welcome to bring your own. Look for the flyers in the Entryway and the Narthex for the weekly scripture readings.
